God Gave Us Easter by Lisa Tawn Bergren

God Gave Us Easter is a cute book in which a little polar bear cub wonders why Easter is so important.  Papa bear teaches him that Easter is special because we remember that we get to be with God forever.

Papa talks about the symbolism of the Easter egg, the Root of Jesse, pine cones, and the river.  These are all things they encounter on their walk.  While the book is based on the Easter season, it also discusses faith matters which extend outside of the Easter holiday.

I recommend this book as a good sit-down book to read with one or two children.  Because of the symbolism, I think you would have to provide additional explanations and check to make sure that the children understand what you’re talking about.

The illustrations are really cute and quaint!
