Here’s the Valentine’s Day box that the kids and I made a couple of years ago. My husband got a birthday gift from my mom in a cool holographic box that was the perfect size and shape for valentines. I set it aside so that we could use it for just that purpose. Here’s how we made it…
I started off by using my X-ACTO knife to cut a slot in the top. I just eyeballed it–this mom wasn’t too concerned about perfection. I had some silver and pink duct tape left over from other projects, so we decided to use those colors on our box. I lined the first strip up with the end of the box, leaving enough on either side to wrap it around and under the lid, and cut it off the roll.
We did the same thing at the other end, then followed that with a strip of pink. We worked from both ends going in towards the middle so that the overall design would be symmetrical.
Here’s what it looked like once the lid was covered. Once all the duct tape was on, I used the X-ACTO knife to remove the tape from the slot. We did the same thing with the duct tape on the bottom of the box, following the same pattern so that it would match up.
To finish off the ends of the lid we put on some washi tape I had sitting around–silver glitter and a heart garland. The tape may not stay on the best, so a bit of clear tape on the ends might help.
The ends of the base of the box got pink polka dots, silver glitter, and neon pink washi tape.
Next the kids decorated the entire box with Valentine’s stickers that I had gotten at the dollar store. I’m glad I got several packs because they went through almost all of them!
My boys did the stickers on the bottom of the box. These owls were so cute. ❤
I hope our box has provided you with some inspiration for decorating your own Valentine’s Day box. We just used an old gift box and items I already had around the house. See what you can make with your odds and ends!
