My kids and I had a blast creating the cups for the our Monster Floats on Halloween! I originally saw the idea on Pinterest. I suggest figuring out the layout of the face before gluing anything on, as it’s really hard to re-position once the glue is on there. Also, be very careful with the hot glue–even I burnt my fingers once or twice! We tried our floats with both grape and orange pop, and preferred the orange. The grape was just a bit too dark to really show off the monster’s features (see photo above). I think green soda would have looked really nice too, and still fit the Halloween theme.
Materials:
- hot glue gun & glue
- black pipe cleaners
- scissors
- medium to large adhesive googly eyes
- clear plastic cups
- vanilla ice cream
- soda pop (grape, orange, green variety, etc.)
- spoons & straws
Directions:
Plug in glue gun to heat up. Cut black pipe cleaner for eyebrows and mouth. Bend pipe cleaners to form desired shapes. Stick eyes to cup and figure out where you want the eyebrows and mouth. Working quickly and carefully, put a line of hot glue on the back of eyebrow and mouth pieces, one at a time, and place on cup. Hold in desired position for a few seconds until set. Be careful not to burn yourself! To make float, put a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream in your monster cup and top off with grape or orange soda pop. Try to pour so that a large pile of bubbles forms on top as “hair.” Enjoy!
