Sit Down (Mary and Martha) by Mary Manz Simon

Sit Down is a smallish paperback picture book that tells the story of Mary and Martha.  It’s aimed at the toddler and preschool age group, so the language is very simple and repetitive.  If you don’t like repetition, this book will drive you up the wall.  😉

The artwork is really the strong point of the book.  It’s cartoonish without being unrealistic, the facial expressions are great, and there’s a lot of action conveyed in each scene.  See the photo below for an idea about how the text flows and what the illustrations look like.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to use the book because it arrived the day before our lesson and I realized just how juvenile the story was.  That’s okay — I’ll save it for another time when I can use it with a younger audience.  I definitely recommend this book for those who are sharing the Mary and Martha story with quite young children.
