Clothespin Airplane

We made these one night when we were offering childcare for a Parents’ Night Out.  It’s easy to make and can be customized (look up “clothespin airplane” and you’ll find some fancy ones).   Supplies: – wooden clothespins – craft sticks (we used colored ones) – glue gun & glue – craft foam – scissors […]

God’s Word is our Treasure Game

Here’s a fun activity that gets the kids looking up Bible verses.  Ask people ahead of time for their favorite Bible verse.  Then make up little slips like this, with treasure chest clip-art and the person’s name and favorite verse reference.  Find a box that looks like a treasure chest, or get one at the […]

Holy Spirit Lesson Intro

For our lesson on the Holy Spirit, I wanted the kids to have a good overview of who the Holy Spirit is and what he does.  It’s a hard concept for adults to understand, let alone kids.  I found a whole bunch of Bible verses that talked about the Holy Spirit, and typed them up.  […]

Gospel Balloon Bracelet Craft

This balloon bracelet made with the Gospel colors was one of our VBS crafts.  The full directions are at Michelle Paige’s blog.  The only difference in the way we made it is that we didn’t tape down each individual balloon piece.  Adults and teens just helped the little kids hold the balloons in place as […]

Father’s Day BINGO

We played a “Dads of the Bible” BINGO game for our Father’s Day lesson.  You can download your own set at Children’s Ministry Deals.  We used Cheerios as our markers.  You can play for prizes or not, it doesn’t really matter.  We had a bucket of little trinkets that the kids got to choose prizes […]

Many Talents Object Lesson

Oh my, I can’t even remember when we did this lesson.  I need to do these posts in a more timely manner in the future!  For this lesson, we were talking about how each member in the Body of Christ has different gifts and talents.  To start off, I gave each of the children a […]

God’s Word Puzzle

Another activity we had for our hands-on Bible lesson was this Scripture puzzle.  We started with a large piece of card stock and the kids looked up their favorite Bible verse, or paged through until they found one they liked.  Then they wrote it on the paper.  Little kids had help from a teacher or […]

Joseph Lesson Intro & Game

To introduce our lesson on Joseph and forgiveness, I developed this little activity at the last minute.  The night before, I colored these beautiful little illustrations of things contained in the story.  I included: Egypt, coat, colors, broken heart, anger, jail, crying, Pharaoh, blood, food, brothers, and kiss (Eww!).  Before the class came in, I […]

Prayer Line & Snack

Another activity in our prayer station lesson was eating a snack and choosing a real-life prayer request from the line to pray about.  I solicited prayer requests ahead of time, typed them up, and cut them into strips.  I used some yarn to string up a line on our white board and attached the slips […]

Lord’s Prayer Booklet

At one point we had a practical lesson on prayer.  There were a variety of stations where the kids could either practice prayer or make something for use in prayer.  At this station they made a little booklet with the Lord’s Prayer in it.  The words do extend very close to the edge, so we […]

God’s Word Lesson Intro

One of our lessons focused on God’s Word and how it is like a gift to us.  I wrapped up a Bible in gift wrap (Christmas paper was all I could find) and attached a gift tag that said, “To: You” and “Love: God.”  To introduce the lesson, talk about gifts–who likes to get them, […]

VBS Decor 2014

I remembered to snap some photos of this year’s VBS decor.  The front stage area already had a wooden backdrop (purple square in the middle) with a cross cut out of it.  Our fabulous decor lady used a roll of purple vinyl (think tablecloth-type material) which she scrunched up and stapled in place.  The cut […]

Holy Spirit Headband & Streamers

For our lesson on the Holy Spirit the kids made flame headbands and these streamers to remind them that there was a sound like rushing wind.  The streamer idea came from our Sunday School teacher who is still going strong in her 80’s.   Holy Spirit Streamers Supplies: – crepe paper (red, yellow, orange, blue) […]

Linen Gravecloths Prop

I made these linen gravecloths to use when we were acting out the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection.  They are a nice prop to have for the Lazarus story, also.  To make some, just take an old white sheet and cut into the seam every 4-5″ along the long edge.  Once you have those […]

Lesson Display Board

At some point along the way, I decided it would be nice to have some sort of display so parents would know what their kids are learning about and doing in Sunday School.  I just happened to have this weekly bulletin board sitting up in my craft room and with a bit of thinking, figured […]

Let the Children Come Craft

One of our lessons was about what God thinks of children.  Our craft was a group endeavor.  I printed off Luke 18:16b, “Let the children come to me.  Don’t stop them!  For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.”  One of the kids cut this out and taped it on […]

Friendship Wreath Craft

We made a very simple craft for our lesson on friendship.  Everybody worked together to make a handprint wreath using whatever color of paint they wanted.  Just label it, tack it up and you’re done! A quick tip: Have someone on hand dedicated to helping the kids clean their hands off.

Joseph’s Colorful Coat Craft

When we did our lesson on Joseph, the theme was forgiveness.  Obviously Joseph had a lot of opportunity to practice forgiveness in his life!  For our craft, I quickly free-handed some jackets on paper (some kids chose to draw their own).  Then the kids got to have fun decorating their coats as colorfully as Joseph’s.  […]

Joseph’s Amazing Coat Prop

When telling the story of Joseph and his amazing coat, why not spice it up a bit with a coat that will truly dazzle your eyes?  This is actually a jacket that used to be my grandma’s.  She loved sparkle and bling.  I held onto the jacket because I figured it would be great for […]

Mother’s Day Gift 1

For Mother’s Day one of our teachers made up these little gifts for all the moms.  (Yes, a mom is making gifts for all the other moms.  Isn’t that usually how it works out?)  She just filled some little drawstring gift bags with Hershey’s Hugs and attached this gift tag.  The art came from Carla […]
